We have done several fantastic events with 'Hugless Douglas' author and illustrator David Melling over the last couple of years.
Last Summer he teamed up with Chris Mould to teach pirate and goblin drawing techniques to children at Abingdon Library:
The year before that, children learned how to draw Hugless Douglas in the Mostly Books garden - as well as making a life-size Douglas body which was a huge amount of fun:
Well, we are delighted to say that David joins us at Mostly Books on Monday 13 August from 10.30am for drawings and activities for anyone who loves the world’s most huggable bear.
Hugless Douglas is a very lovable bear who wakes up after a long winter nap and knows he needs one thing – a hug. But he has to go through a few adventures and mishaps before finding the perfect hug. There are now three ‘Hugless Douglas’ books and if you haven’t yet discovered them, this summer is the perfect time.
David will be giving drawing tips as he creates a masterpiece in the shop. You can follow along too and make your very own Hugless mobile. AND – in a first for Mostly Books – we will be making the event interactive, with live updates on the blog, taking questions from our Facebook group, answering drawing-related questions on Twitter, and trying to share a virtual hug to anyone who cannot make it to the shop.
David Melling will be signing copies of all of his bestselling books – from ‘The Kiss that Missed’ and 'The Tale Jack Frost' to ‘Hugless Douglas’ and friends. The fact that David lives and works in Abingdon is a bonus!
If you cannot make the event, we would delighted to get a copy signed and dedicated for you.
For a chance to meet and watch one of the UK's most popular illustrators in action, let us know you are coming, and then simply come along to Mostly Books on Monday 13 August from 10.30am. It promises to be a wonderful event...and the Jet Stream may have shifted enough by then to do the event in the garden!
