Upcoming Event: Tara Westover - Educated

We are delighted to announce that Tara Westover will be coming to Abingdon to talk about her upcoming book, Educated - a Penguin Random House non-fiction highlight of 2018.

Tara grew up in the hills of an Idaho mountain, with a father who spent his time preparing for the end of the world, a mother who worked as an unqualified midwife to the women of the community, and a brace of brothers and sisters. Most of her siblings didn’t exist insofar as authority was concerned – no birth certificates, no schooling, no medical care and Tara didn't get a birth certificate until she was nine.

She didn't set foot in a classroom before the age of 17 and yet, by 27, she had earned a PhD in Intellectual History from Cambridge University.

Tara's book Educated tells the story of her self-invention and determination to access knowledge. The book has been chosen as Non-Fiction Book of the Month by 'The Bookseller' - the key industry publication for the book trade - and has been sold to over 20 countries. Furthermore, Julia and Sarah heard Tara speak at the Booksellers Association conference and found her story fascinating.

Educated was published on February 22nd and we are excited to announce that Tara will be coming to Abingdon on Wednesday 14th March. The event will be taking place at 7.30pm at Fitzharrys School, Northcourt Road, Abingdon OX14 1NP. Tickets are £5 which includes a drink and £2 redeemable off the price of the book on the evening. Tara will be available to sign books after the event.

Tickets are available at Mostly Books and on EventBrite. (Note that tickets bought on EventBrite are subject to a booking fee).  We expect tickets to sell fast so please get int touch to reserve yours today.
